Park West
Scope/Solutions
With a steadily expanding student population, Texas A&M’s housing needs continue to grow. As one of the largest student housing developments in the country, Park West includes 1,300 units for more than 3,400 students. The complex offers many amenities, such as a rooftop swimming pool, hot tub, fitness centers, and gathering spaces. SGH consulted on the building enclosure design and construction for this multi-building project.
SGH consulted on the building enclosure design for two major building types: a central, eight-story, 1800-bed student housing facility with a rooftop pool and amenity deck, and two nearby five-story, 500-bed residence buildings. SGH collaborated with the project team throughout design and construction of the roofing, balconies, windows and storefronts, and stucco and rainscreen panel exterior wall systems. Highlights of our work include the following:
- Collaborated with the architect and contractor to develop details to integrate the various building enclosure systems, including balcony and amenity deck waterproofing, roofing, and exterior wall cladding systems
- Evaluated thermal transmission, vapor migration, and moisture resistance of the wall assemblies, including air/water/vapor barriers and insulation
- Helped the construction team evaluate and select building enclosure products, materials, and systems, including windows, curtain walls, storefronts, cladding, and roofing
- Provided construction phase services, including reviewing contractor submittals, clarifying detailing and installation requirements, visiting the site to observe completed enclosure work and performance testing of mockups and installed components, and helping the contractor resolve field conditions
