Montgomery College Campus

Scope/Solutions

Montgomery College was contemplating upcoming renovation work and wanted an evaluation of the building enclosure systems on several of their campus buildings. SGH investigated the exterior wall cladding systems, associated facade elements, and roofing at three buildings: the Science & Applied Studies Building, Humanities & Social Sciences Building, and Physical Education Building Gymnasium and Natatorium.

SGH assessed a variety of enclosure systems for the three buildings, including EIFS cladding, window and storefront systems, synthetic tile, clay tile, and low-slope roofing.  For each of the buildings, we performed interior and exterior surveys, used thermal imaging, evaluated the various building enclosure systems, and commented on the performance of the mechanical system and the impact on the building enclosure.  We reviewed related information and project documents and developed repair and recladding alternatives.

In a comprehensive report, we summarized our field observations and thermal imaging results, provided a discussion of pertinent issues and remedial needs, and outlined a summary of repair and recladding options with cost estimates for consideration by the college.
