Scope/Solutions
Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center undertook a major expansion project that included the construction of several new buildings. Development on North Sheffield Avenue includes a new building dedicated to outpatient physical therapy and sports medicine and a new five-story parking garage. SGH provided building enclosure commissioning services for the project.
SGH provided building enclosure commissioning services during the design and construction phases. Highlights of our work include the following:
- Collaborating with the design team to develop the owner’s project requirements (OPR) and the basis of design
- Reviewing design documents, recommending ways to improve air/water barrier continuity and building enclosure constructability, and providing suggestions for achieving the OPR
- Preparing a building enclosure commissioning plan and specifications
- Providing construction phase building enclosure commissioning services, including performing site visits to observe installation of the building enclosure systems, documenting our observations to track unresolved issues throughout the construction process, observing field testing of the enclosure systems, and collaborating with the project team to resolve field conditions

The below-grade space at 245 South Gary Avenue was renovated when the Martin T. Russo Family Health Center was relocated to that level. SGH investigated the causes of the flooring failure observed by facility personnel.
