Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Celebrates Ten Years Volunteering with ACE of Greater Boston Mentorship Program
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) recently celebrated ten years of partnering with the ACE Mentor Program of America (ACE), having served as a mentor firm since the inception of its Greater Boston chapter. ACE – which stands for architecture, construction, and engineering – offers an after-school program for high school students interested in these disciplines. Teams of students work with volunteer mentors from across the industry to complete a hypothetical building project and take part in visits to local project sites, workplaces, and universities.
On 8 March 2017, SGH volunteers helped mark the end of ACE of Greater Boston’s 2016–2017 program at a final showcase for more than seventy students held at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. More than 200 attendees came to see the students present the final results of their year-long projects. ACE of Greater Boston also awarded $125,000 in scholarships to students pursuing undergraduate studies in related fields.
“It was an honor to work with such a great group of students this year,” said SGH Senior Project Manager Mike Tecci. “We have seen the ACE of Greater Boston program grow steadily over the last ten years, and this was our biggest and most successful year yet. All of our volunteer mentors are proud of what these students have accomplished and look forward to next year.”
Ten mentors from SGH’s Boston office participated in the program. Mike, Casey Williams, and Molly Johnson served as team leaders and organized three of the program’s four locations. SGH’s Clayton Brown, Lisa Hofgesang, Stephen Holland, Kyle Karschner, Elisa Livingston, Brooke Quinn, and Connor Tinen also volunteered as mentors and helped the students throughout the year. More than two dozen SGH staff members have mentored over the firm’s ten years of partnership with ACE of Greater Boston.
To continue encouraging these students to pursue careers in engineering, SGH will host two interns from the ACE of Greater Boston program at our Boston office this summer.
