CBD Parking Garage Wins ICRI Project Award

CBD Parking Garage Wins ICRI Project Award

The International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) recently honored Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) with an Award of Merit in the Parking Structures category for our work at the CBD Parking Garage in Malden, MA, as part of the organization’s 2024 ICRI Project Awards. Each year, the awards program recognizes outstanding concrete repair projects during its Fall Convention, which was held in Denver, CO, this year.

Project team member, Benjamin Rybaltowski, accepting the award at the convention.

The six-level CBD Parking Garage was built in the early 1980s. The elevated parking structure consists of post-tensioned (PT) reinforced concrete slabs interconnected by ramps integrated with the parking levels, and an exit helix ramp at the center of the garage. The garage had severe concrete deterioration due to corrosion at several areas. SGH performed a condition assessment of the structure and identified numerous areas with damaged PT reinforcement. SGH developed a repair program to address the structural deficiencies. The repairs of the damaged PT tendon reinforcement included shoring of the structure to detension, splice, and stress the tendons while the garage remained operational. The repair work was successfully completed in the summer of 2023.

SGH was pleased to collaborate with the city of Malden, Hayner/Swanson, and Structural Preservation Systems on the repairs.
