Advancing the Structural Engineering Profession
The Structural Engineering Engagement and Equity (SE3) Project was established by a committee of the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) in 2015 with a broad and ambitious goal: to advance our profession by engaging all structural engineers regardless of gender, age, location, or experience. By surveying more than 2,000 practicing structural engineers, we examined all things concerning our professional practice, from career advancement opportunities to pay and flexibility benefits, from average number of hours worked to work-life balance. I am proud to be one of the project’s founders, and excited for the work we continue to do for our profession.
SE3 recently formed a national committee through the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA). As we expand our mission and passion for structural engineering, now is a good time to share our latest video, which explores the reasons why we choose and love what we do. I am thankful for everyone who has propelled this project to where it is today, especially for my SGH colleagues who have participated in the project: Karen Vogt-Wilcox, Taryn Williams, and Kevin Moore. I would also like to thank the senior leadership at SGH, including Glenn Bell, Julie Nevins, Charlie Russo, and all of the principals in the San Francisco office for their continued support of this work.
