Hazel Crest, IL
Advocate South Suburban Hospital, Surgical Procedural Center
Scope/Solutions
Advocate South Suburban Hospital needed to expand and upgrade their operating rooms to accommodate evolving technology for surgeries and cardiac procedures. The new Surgical Procedural Center combines a new addition with reconfigured spaces in the main hospital building. SGH provided building enclosure commissioning and building enclosure testing services for the addition.
SGH provided design-phase commissioning services, construction administration support, and construction-phase commissioning field testing for the building enclosure. Highlights of our work include the following:
Pre-Design and Design Phases
- Reviewing the owner’s project requirements, building program, basis of design, and related design documents to compare with the design and performance expectations
- Developing a building enclosure commissioning plan outlining roles, responsibilities, and communication methods, and summarizing the commissioning process
- Preparing a building enclosure commissioning specification
Construction and Post-Construction Phases
- Coordinating with the construction manager to plan for and schedule commissioning activities
- Reviewing submittals and shop drawings for key systems
- Visiting the site to observe building enclosure mockups and installation
- Performing air and water testing of mockups and the installed storefront system; smoke testing penetrations and joints in opaque wall, doors, and roofing; testing sealant adhesion; and performing an infrared survey of the roof assembly
- Conducting a ten-month post-occupancy warranty review
