Sustaining Parking Garages: Proactive Approaches to Repair and Maintenance

Sustaining Parking Garages: Proactive Approaches to Repair and Maintenance

Parking garages are susceptible to deterioration in all climates—primarily due to corrosion at steel reinforcement in cold climates and thermal movement in warmer areas. While parking garages provide a necessary amenity, routine repairs and maintenance are frequently ignored due to limited funding and operations. However, proactive repairs and maintenance can extend the useful life of these structures and reduce future costs. In this webinar, we will describe common structural systems in parking garages, provide an overview of typical causes of deterioration and how to address them, and discuss how to plan for future repairs and maintenance. Using project examples, this presentation will illustrate the cost implications of deferred maintenance and its long-term impact on operations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify typical mechanisms for deterioration in parking garages in different climates and how to address them.
  • Discuss the information and strategies to consider when developing repair and maintenance programs.
  • Describe the benefits of proactive maintenance and timely repairs to extend the service life of parking garage structures.
  • Present examples illustrating approaches to managing parking garage repairs and maintenance.

Participants will earn 1.0 AIA CES Learning Unit (LU/HSW) for attending the webinar. Registration is free. Please note that space is limited – email events@sgh.com to join our waitlist if the session is closed when you register.
