Compact Range Reflector

Fort Huachuca, AZ

SGH designed this 75 foot diameter offset parabolic reflector to maintain its accuracy in the harsh heat and wind of the southern Arizona desert. The backstructure is a rectilinear grid of 12-foot deep steel trusses mounted on two legs and three backstays. The front of the structure is covered by 134 reflecting panels arranged in a fan-shaped pattern radiating from the vertex of the offset paraboloid. Around the circumference of the reflecting surface are 192 serrated petal panels that protrude beyond the perimeter of the back structure. The rear and sides of the trusses are covered with louvers and insulated panels to shield the structure from direct sunlight and permit air circulation. SGH provided all structural design services and consulted on installation procedures.
