Thornton Natatorium

The Thornton Natatorium is part of a larger recreation center that includes racquetball courts and a gymnasium. The building experienced severe efflorescence on the north exterior masonry wall. SGH investigated the cause of the stains and discovered that the design of the building was inadequate for the moisture conditions. We designed a new roof system with a structural air/vapor barrier, thermally broken structural blocking, and venting for a cavity space under the roof system. We supervised the design of the mechanical system repairs and prepared plans and specifications for other repairs, provided full-time monitoring during construction, and assisted the owner in recovering damages.
