Procter & Gamble Far East Headquarters
Kobe, Japan
The 500,000 sq ft, 31-story building with attached 12-story technical research center houses Procter & Gamble's headquarters and research facilities for its Far East operations. Following the 1995 Kobe earthquake, P&G commissioned SGH to determine the extent of earthquake damage and recommend repairs. Working with engineers from the Japanese designers and builders of the facility, SGH performed field surveys of the damage, made structural analyses to determine the effect of the earthquake on the structural frame, and developed recommendations for repair of the building. SGH also directed consultants to perform a seismic hazard study of the risk of future earthquakes.
