Macallen Building
Boston, MA
Designed by Office dA architects, the Macallen building is a 270-unit residential development with three levels of parking and a 20,000 sq ft elevated green roof with a 17-degree sloping profile. The residential portion is a 270,000 sq ft steel-framed structure. SGH provided both structural and building envelope design for the project. We designed a steel staggered truss system for the residential levels that provides interior column-free modules of 72 ft x 64 ft. The system reduced the need for column transfers at the parking level drive lanes. Our building envelope design consulting services involved development of transition details between cladding components and integration with the structural systems. SGH also consulted on the waterproofing design of the green roof.
