Contemporary Jewish Museum
San Francisco, CA
The Contemporary Jewish Museum combines bold contemporary architecture with the adaptive reuse of the Jessie Street Power Substation. Renowned architect Daniel Libeskind designed the new 63,000 sq ft museum. The Museum combines the shapes of the Chet and the Yud, Hebrew letters for L'Chaim, or "to life," with the existing 1907 historic facade and roof trusses. The new structure is clad with custom-fabricated diamond-shaped blue brushed stainless steel panels. SGH assisted the executive architect, WRNS Studio, with the waterproofing design, including the development of the exterior skin, below-grade, and plaza deck waterproofing details.
